Two of the “Weekly Boarding in Indigenous Families” programs in the north of Potosí will be operated on behalf of the district office by the Fundación Pueblo. In Uyuni 42 children (33 boys and 9 girls) were enrolled at the beginning of the school year; and in Capunita 25 children (15 girls and 10 boys) were taken on by the program to live with host indigenous families during school days in order to continue their basic training in the nearest middle school.
Our volunteer Lukas remained in Uyuni and Capunita for four weeks in order to support the local coordinators and promote the project “Healthier Eating” for better nutrition and health for the students. At the same time he was able to find a number of interesting similarities and differences between the two projects, which are valuable guidelines for quality assurance and improvement of the programs in Potosí and soon also in Tarija.
