Conclusion of our sanitary project in Copacabana
Thursday August 31st, 2017
This August, we are extremely pleased to inform you of the successes of our project “Improvement of Basic Sanitation and Access to Water for host mothers”. At the beginning of August, we inaugurated eight new bathrooms and improved five in presence of the mayor and local authorities. Previously, we held two workshops for host mothers, their families, and scholars to learn how to use the new bathrooms together. First, we discussed personal and domestic hygiene, in which participants learned the importance of hygiene, from washing hands through separating the trash. We also held a workshop to teach host mothers how to repairs the bathrooms on their own. This, mainly so that their new hygienic routines are not impeded for months due to a broken faucet for example.
We are happy that a total of 100 people now have access to running water (49 scholarship recipients, 13 host mothers and their families). In addition, we hope that through the scholars, hygiene will gain importance in their families and in the community.
